Welcome to DENIVA

Welcome to the Development Network of Indigenous Voluntary Associations (DENIVA) website.

DENIVA is a Ugandan Network of Non-Governmental and Community Based Organizations (NGOs/CBOs) providing a platform for collective action and a voice to voluntary local associations to strongly advocate for creation of more opportunities for people and CSO participation in the development of Uganda.

DENIVA was founded in February 1988 by visionary leaders from 21 NGOs in Uganda. They recognized that the scattered efforts by voluntary local associations needed to be marshalled together for better impact and a collective voice. Since then, DENIVA has grown into a large National NGO Network with with over 700 Member organizations spread throughout the Country, with the majority located upcountry.

With its more than 20 years of experience in networking and advocacy for “pro-poor” policies and strategies to eradicate poverty and hold government accountable, DENIVA is strongly placed at the centre of the Civil Society sector to engage players at all levels towards sustainable development and growth. Through its countrywide network and with its international partners, DENIVA has the capacity and expertise  to work towards empowerment of Uganda’s citizens to advocate and stand up for their rights and needs for a prosperous Uganda.

DENIVA’s main goal is to influence policy and decision makers at all levels to address the concerns and demands of the people especially the poor and the marginalised. In its quest to attain this goal, DENIVA creates platforms and fora  to give the public and other stakeholders who subscribe to the principles and values of civil society, opportunity to debate topical issues at all levels especially at the national level. The aim is to come up with possible solutions and recommendations to address the various challenges that may be identified.  Currently DENIVA is coordinating a number of CSO activities aimed at promoting economic accountability and responsive leadership in Uganda.
