Links to: Agriculture & Trade Poverty Eradication & Livelihoods Improvement Programme The Poverty Eradication & Livelihoods Improvement Programme (PELIP) of DENIVA covers the period 2006-2008. This promises innovative plans for the period. The striking goals to be achieved in this period, are qualitative basic shift into making policy and decision makers at all levels, address the concerns and demands of the poor and the marginalised people. DENIVA wants to achieve this goal through empowering its membership to engage relevant stakeholders to respond to the concerns and demands of citizens. DENIVA member organisations working through coalitions & alliances will monitor PEAP implementation in the sectors of Education, Conflict, Agriculture and Trade. DENIVA continues to promote effective participation of CSOs in influencing pro-poor policy processes and monitoring the implementation of government’s international commitments to social developments this is because policy design and implementation in general, trade, agriculture and globalisation in particular, have neither progressed smoothly nor benefited all the targeted communities in the desired ways. This three-year plan is building on the high profile role that DENIVA wants to play in “the Uganda we want”. It seeks to consolidate the work DENIVA has been carrying out on poverty in the previous years. Therefore, DENIVA’s PELIP programme calculatingly seeks to both broaden and deepen the understanding of the connection between poverty, trade, agriculture and other related pro-poor policies. This will help MOs to identify the inadequacy of both national and international pro-poor policies, thus explore ways of improving such policies and conditions of life. |
